VMware Configuration Maximums Explorer

Short answer: this explorer lists every published configuration maximum of three product families on one timeline each: vSphere / ESX from vSphere 6.0 to 8.0 and on to the VCF-era ESX + vCenter 9.0 and 9.1 releases, vSAN from the vSAN limits of vSphere 6.0 to the vSAN 9.x releases, and NSX from NSX-T Data Center 2.3 through NSX 4.x to NSX 9.x. Pick a release and browse its limits by category and group, search by name, group, value or description, switch on “New in this release” or “Changed in this release” to see what a release brought against the previous one, compare any two releases in Compare, and open every limit in its release on configmax.broadcom.com, the Broadcom site this data is built from. The site remains the authority; the explorer adds the history.

How to use it

  • Families and timelines. The tabs switch between vSphere / ESX, vSAN and NSX. Each family is one release timeline stitched across the VCF 9.0 product split: the old vSphere releases are followed by the ESX + vCenter releases, the vSAN, Storage Policies and Virtual Volumes categories of the old vSphere releases are followed by the vSAN product, and NSX-T Data Center 2.3 to 3.2.5 is followed by NSX 4.x and NSX 9.x. The release strip names the source releases on configmax.broadcom.com.
  • Browse. Limits are grouped by category and group exactly as the source publishes them. A green new badge marks a limit the chosen release introduced, an amber changed badge a value that differs from the previous release (hover for the old value), and a red removed next badge a limit the following release no longer publishes.
  • Compare. Pick two releases to list what was added, what disappeared and which values moved, for example vSphere 8.0 against ESX / vCenter 9.0.0 or NSX 9.0.2 against 9.1.0. A limit that the source re-keyed or moved to another group or category between releases is followed as one line (the history in the panel notes the old group); what still shows as removed and added are groups the source split or merged, as in the NSX 4.2.4 to 9.0.0 step.
  • Matrix. Like Compare Limits on configmax.broadcom.com: tick any number of releases and get one column per release in timeline order, limits as rows grouped by category, NA where a release does not publish a limit. A cell is marked when it differs from the column to its left; “Only differences” keeps the rows whose value moved, CSV downloads the table and Copy link reproduces it (?view=matrix&releases=80,900,910).
  • Index. The Jump to menu above the Browse list and the Matrix (hover or tap) leads to a category; on this page the categories of the chosen family are also listed in the table of contents, which opens by itself on wide screens, and a click there scrolls to that section of the explorer.
  • History and source. The panel shows the value in the chosen release, the description, and the value in every release of the family (click a row to jump to that release). Source opens the category of the limit in that release on configmax.broadcom.com; Copy link gives a URL that opens the explorer on that limit and release (?family=vsan&limit=185&release=80). The Markdown buttons export the current list, the comparison, or the history of one limit as a table.
