VCF ESX Boot Server Generator

Stand up a Linux box that netboots the ESX 9 installer and serves your kickstarts: the same one-shot-installer pattern as the offline depot, but for provisioning hosts instead of binaries. The preview updates as you type: install script, dnsmasq or DHCP options, web vhost, boot.cfg, per-host kickstarts, a host-manager CLI with a status dashboard, a verification script and an offline prep script.

VCF 9.0 / 9.1 · ESX 9UEFI PXE · UEFI HTTP · iPXEdnsmasq proxy / full DHCPPer-host by MACnginx · ApacheUbuntu · RHELSecure Boot aware
Your data stays in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The ESX root password is never written into these files: install.sh asks for it once and stores only a SHA-512 hash on the boot server.
Verify before production. File layout and DHCP options follow the Broadcom "Network Booting the ESX Installer" guides for ESX 9.0 and the vSphere 8.0 sample DHCP configurations. Legacy BIOS netboot is only for ESXi 8.x hosts: ESXi 8.0 dropped BIOS support for new platforms and ESX 9 hosts boot UEFI.

5 DHCP for PXE

Leases are install-window length (1h). For relayed subnets add one dhcp-range per subnet; the netmask is what lets dnsmasq match relayed (giaddr) requests.

6 TLS (web service only)

Kickstarts and modules keep working over plain HTTP; TLS only matters for HTTPS boot or if you browse the dashboard over the internet.

7 Hosts

HostnamePXE NIC MACManagement IP
Host FQDN = hostname + the kickstart domain. DNS forward and reverse records must exist before VCF bring-up. The MAC is the NIC the host PXE-boots from (lower-case, colon separated).

8 Kickstart settings

Secure Boot: with UEFI Secure Boot enabled, ESX refuses to run the unsigned %firstboot section (NTP, SSH, DNS search). Install with Secure Boot off, finish the VCF bring-up, then enable it.
